Modern Testing and Grading Standards

Assessment Framework, GPA Calculations & Academic Policies
AY 2025–2026 Version 4.0 Annual Review
§ 01

Purpose & Scope

This document establishes a consistent, transparent, and equitable framework for assessing student performance across all subjects and grade levels. All faculty are required to adhere to these guidelines when designing assessments, assigning grades, calculating GPA, and communicating results.

Recommended Minimum: Students are expected to master their coursework at a minimum of B− performance. Work that falls below this threshold may be subject to mandatory remediation or course repetition.
§ 02

Grading Scale with Plus / Minus

Letter grades A, B, C, D, and F are used. Plus (+) and minus (−) modifiers apply to all grades except A+ and F−. GPA is calculated on a standard 4.0 GPA scale using the quality points below. Tap a GPA value to see what that specific score means for standing and admissions.

Written Response Rubric

For essays and open-ended responses, all graders apply the five criteria below uniformly. Each criterion is scored out of 20 points (total: 100).

Criterion
Description
Max Pts

Testing Conduct & Academic Policies

All students and faculty are bound by the following policies. Ignorance of policy is not an acceptable defence.

Plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, or use of unauthorized materials on any assignment or exam is prohibited. The escalation process applies per student across all courses:
  • 1st Offense: Warning issued; assignment is reset for completion.
  • 2nd Offense: Assignment receives a zero with no retake. Parent/guardian notified.
  • 3rd Offense: Automatic failure of the course. Formal disciplinary review initiated.
All instructors use plagiarism-detection technology on submitted work.
Students with a verified, excused absence may request a makeup within 3 school days of their return. Documentation must be provided.
  • Unexcused absences forfeit the right to a makeup and receive a zero.
  • The makeup format may differ from the original at the instructor's discretion.
  • No rounding up or down of any score is permitted.
Assignments submitted after the deadline are penalized on a sliding scale:
  • 1 day late: −10% deducted from earned score.
  • 2 days late: −20% deducted from earned score.
  • 3 days late: −30% deducted from earned score.
  • 4+ days late: Assignment not accepted; zero recorded.
Extensions may be granted at the instructor's discretion with prior written notice.
Students may appeal a grade by submitting a formal written letter to the Academic Board within 5 school days of receiving the grade.
  • Appeals must specify the disputed grade and provide a clear rationale.
  • A decision will be issued within 30 days.
  • The Academic Board's decision is final and binding.
Students with documented accommodations are entitled to all approved adjustments as outlined in their IEP or 504 Plan. Instructors must comply fully. Common accommodations include:
  • Extended time (1.5× or 2× standard duration).
  • Reduced-distraction testing environment.
  • Assistive technology or alternative response formats.
Documentation must be on file with the academic office prior to the assessment.
All unauthorized devices — including smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds — must be powered off and stored before an exam begins.
  • Calculators and reference materials are permitted only where explicitly stated.
  • Possession of an unauthorized device constitutes an integrity violation, regardless of use.
Students may repeat a course to improve their grade. The following rules apply:
  • A Grade Replacement Acknowledgement Form must be completed before re-enrollment.
  • Only the higher of the two grades is used in GPA calculation.
  • Both attempts remain on the official transcript with notation.
  • Grades of D+, D, and D− are not accepted as transfer credit unless specifically approved.
§ 07
