Grading Scale for 29 Questions
On a 29-question test, each question is worth 3.45%, so every wrong answer lowers the score by 3.45 percentage points. That is typical of a chapter test. The chart below shows the percentage and letter grade for every possible score, from 29 right down to 0.
Letter grades on a 29-question test
This summary uses the standard plus/minus scale (A from 93%, A− from 90%, B+ from 87% and so on down to D− at 60%). For a plain scale, an A needs 27 right (miss up to 2), a B allows 5 misses, a C allows 8, and a D allows 11.
| Grade | Right | Wrong | Percentage |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 29 | 0 | 100% |
| A | 27–28 | 1–2 | 93.1–96.6% |
| A− | No possible score on a 29-question test | ||
| B+ | 26 | 3 | 89.7% |
| B | 25 | 4 | 86.2% |
| B− | 24 | 5 | 82.8% |
| C+ | 23 | 6 | 79.3% |
| C | 22 | 7 | 75.9% |
| C− | 21 | 8 | 72.4% |
| D+ | 20 | 9 | 69% |
| D | 19 | 10 | 65.5% |
| D− | 18 | 11 | 62.1% |
| F | 0–17 | 12–29 | 0–58.6% |
Because each question is worth 3.45%, one letter grade can’t be reached at all on a 29-question test: A−. Scores jump straight over that range. If that matters for your grade book, use half-point scoring in the EZ Grader (Settings → Half points).

The dashed line marks the pass mark (60%). “+/−” uses the standard plus/minus scale; “Plain” uses A 90, B 80, C 70, D 60.

Borderline scores to watch
On a 29-question test, 3 scores sit just below a grade cutoff and would move up a letter grade if you round to the nearest whole percent: 28/29 = 96.6%, which rounds up to an A+; 26/29 = 89.7%, which rounds up to an A−; 24/29 = 82.8%, which rounds up to a B. Decide your rounding rule before grading so these students are treated the same way. The EZ Grader’s Show decimals option shows the exact value.
Compared with a 28-question test, where each miss costs 3.57 points, a miss here costs 3.45 points, so every answer matters a little less.
