GPA to Percentage Calculator (and Percentage to GPA)
Convert a GPA to a percentage, or a percentage (100-point) grade to a 4.0 GPA, in one tool. On the standard 4.0 scale a 4.0 is 93–100%, a 3.5 is about 88–89%, a 3.0 is 83–86% and a 2.0 is 73–76%. Going the other way, a 93 is a 4.0, a 90 is a 3.7 and an 85 is a 3.0. Full charts for every GPA and every percentage are below.

How to Convert GPA to Percentage
There are two ways people convert a GPA, and they give different answers. Knowing which one your school or form wants avoids a big mistake.
1. Grade-scale method (standard)
Match your GPA to the letter grade it stands for, then use that letter's percentage range. A 3.0 is a B, and a B is 83–86%. Between two letters, the percentage is placed proportionally: a 3.5 sits between B+ (87%) and A− (90%), so it is about 88–89%. This is how U.S. grades actually work and what this page uses.
2. Simple formula
Percentage = GPA ÷ 4.0 × 100. A 3.0 becomes 75% and a 3.5 becomes 87.5%. It only shows where your GPA sits on the scale, not the grades you earned, so it understates most GPAs. Use it only if an application asks for it.

Percentage to GPA Chart (100-Point to 4.0 Scale)
Many high schools report grades and GPAs out of 100. To put a 100-point grade on the 4.0 scale, find its letter grade. Honors adds 0.5 and AP or IB adds 1.0 on a weighted scale (an F gets no bonus).

Converting a Weighted 100-Point GPA
If your school adds bonus points to AP or Honors grades on the 100-point scale, a weighted GPA like a 96 weighted already includes those points. Converting it straight to the 4.0 scale overstates your unweighted GPA. Take the bonus points out first (your transcript or counselor can tell you how many your school adds), then use the chart above. To go between weighted and unweighted on the 4.0 scale, use the weighted to unweighted GPA calculator.
GPA to Percentage on 4.3, 5.0 and 10-Point Scales
For scales other than 4.0, the converter uses the simple formula (GPA ÷ scale maximum × 100), because those scales do not map to letter grades the same way at every school.
| GPA | On a 4.3 scale | On a 5.0 scale | On a 10-point scale |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4.0 | 93.0% | 80.0% | — |
| 3.5 | 81.4% | 70.0% | — |
| 4.5 (weighted) | — | 90.0% | — |
| 8.5 | — | — | 85.0% |
A weighted 5.0-scale GPA is not the same as an unweighted 4.0 GPA. A 4.5 weighted usually means an A average with several AP or Honors classes, not a 90% average.

GPA to Percentage — Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert GPA to percentage?
Find the letter grade your GPA stands for and use that letter's percentage range: a 4.0 is 93–100%, a 3.7 is 90–92%, a 3.0 is 83–86% and a 2.0 is 73–76%. Between letters, place it proportionally — a 3.5 is about 88–89%. The simple formula (GPA ÷ 4 × 100) gives lower numbers and is only used when a form asks for it.
What is a 3.5 GPA in percentage?
A 3.5 GPA is about 88–89% on the standard 4.0 scale, between a B+ and an A−. With the simple formula it is 87.5%.
What is a 3.0 GPA in percentage?
A 3.0 GPA is a B average, which is 83–86%. The simple formula gives 75%, but that does not match the grades a 3.0 student actually earns.
What is a 3.7 GPA in percentage?
A 3.7 GPA is an A−, which is 90–92% on the standard scale.
What is a 2.0 GPA in percentage?
A 2.0 GPA is a C average, which is 73–76%.
What is a 4.0 GPA in percentage?
A 4.0 GPA is an A or A+ average, 93–100%.
What is a 93 GPA on a 4.0 scale?
A 93 is an A, which is 4.0 on the 4.0 scale. A 92 drops to an A− (3.7).
What is a 90 GPA on a 4.0 scale?
A 90 is an A−, which is 3.7 on the 4.0 scale. At schools where every A starts at 90, it is a 4.0.
What is an 85 GPA on a 4.0 scale?
An 85 is a B, which is 3.0 on the 4.0 scale.
How do I convert a weighted 100-point GPA to a 4.0 scale?
Remove any bonus points your school adds for AP or Honors classes first, then convert the unweighted number with the percentage to GPA chart. A 96 weighted with bonus points is lower than a 4.0 unweighted.
How do I convert GPA to percentage on a 5.0 scale?
Divide by 5 and multiply by 100: a 4.5 on a 5.0 scale is 90%. Weighted 5.0-scale GPAs include AP and Honors bonus points, so they do not equal a raw percentage average.
